DILLON G. ORTLIEB arrested for murdering an innocent and defenseless dog

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of State Police Herkimer arrested 27-year-old DILLON G. ORTLIEB (pictured).

ORTLIEB is accused of murdering an innocent and defenseless dog.

On the evening of October 25, 2025, Troopers out of SP Herkimer responded to a residence on Mechanic Street in Salisbury in reference to a domestic incident.

Upon arrival, Troopers discovered a deceased dog. The furvictim, a 3-year-old female Maltese Yorkshire Terrier named Mylah, was found laying on a kitchen countertop with drying blood emitting from in and around her mouth.

From an investigation it emerged that ORTLIEB and Mylah’s guardian got into a verbal dispute. At some point, Mylah’s guardian left the residence to cool off, and when they returned, they found Mylah lifeless inside her kennel.

Mylah’s guardian took the Innocent Soul to Cornell University Animal Hospital for a necropsy. Results later showed intracranial hemorrhage and intraocular/periocular hemorrhage of Mylah’s right eye consistent with blunt force trauma.

ORTLIEB was taken into custody on December 10, 2025, and charged with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

ORTLIEB was not jailed, instead, he was issued an appearance ticket returnable on December 18, 2025, at the town of Salisbury Court at 3:00 p.m.

The Herkimer County Humane Society shared a picture of Mylah on their Facebook page and like they rightfully said: “Only cowards hurt the helpless.”
