Two Sanpete County residents have alerted the Department of Agriculture and the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office to animal abuse they have witnessed on their neighbor’s property near Canyon View Drive and Oakridge Drive.
One of the two residents, Mr. Tony Canterberry, told ABC 4 that he first came across a field of dead sheep and lambs near his property and as he looked further, he realized there was more than that on the property.
According to Mr. Canterberry, the live animals present on the property were malnourished and called the scene “disgusting and troubling.”
He said there were at least a dozen deceased lambs scattered throughout the area.
He told ABC 4: “That’s how the owner of the property leaves them. Wherever they fall, they fall.” “The owner of the property, he doesn’t care. And it’s sad,” he added.
Mr. Canterberry added it’s not the first time he’s seen such a horrible sight and took pictures and filmed what he witnessed. An image showed the wool nearly gone from one of the sheep.
He saw the animals were starving so he threw alfalfa into their pens and some landed on the backs of the sheep.
He saw the poor animals searching for the alfalfa hidden in the wool and tore if off each other to get to the herb.
“It made me sick. I’ve told this guy to get his sheep vaccinated. I’ve told him they’ve got worms and he just kept ignoring it”, said Mr. Canterberry.
Mr. Canterberry told ABC 4 that one of his concerns is that his neighbor may be taking contaminated meat to Salt Lake to sell since he claims that his neighbor has a small store in the county.
According to Mr. Canterberry, one of the sheep had maggots and his neighbor “just cut out the part where maggots had been and eaten on and cut the meat up and put it in the store.”
Mr. Canterberry is not the only one who witnessed this.
A friend of his, Mr. Jared Jensen who is also a rancher, told ABC 4: “I’ve never seen deaths in my life that did not need to happen. I’ve seen sheep eating the wool off of other sheep. There’s about 40 carcasses laying out there and just barely starting to rot”.
Both men said they have notified the sheriff’s office and the Department of Agriculture because they have had enough and all this has to stop.
“This is just something that I saw that needed to be dealt with. We’ll let the law do what the law needs to do”, said Mr. Jensen.
ABC 4 reports that Mr. Canterberry and Mr. Jensen provided the news agency with the neighbor’s last name but ABC 4 was not successful in finding him.
ABC 4 also tried to reach Department of Agriculture but attempts were unsuccessful.
I have emailed the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office to confirm that the complaint is being investigated but I have not heard back.

Many thanks to Misters Tony Canterberry & Jared Jensen for reporting this atrocity. If not for them how long would this abuse & neglect continue?! The horrid human monster who neglected these poor sheep must be found, jailed & convicted. No excuses.
