On August 28, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office got a warrant and finally arrested DAVID BROWN (pictured below).
The arrest comes one year after BROWN’s dog, Bruno, was bitten by a venomous snake and left to suffer for 5 long days without being treated.
The incident happened in September 2019.
Officer Reannon Juergensen, with Charlotte County Animal Control, said that BROWN took Bruno to the Animal Welfare League in Charlotte County claiming he had cancer and wanted to euthanize him.
Doctors realized that the "cancer" was actually a venomous snake bite that had never been treated.
Officer Juergensen said: “The infection was so bad then he ended up becoming septic, and he had to be euthanized unfortunately because of it. It wasn’t from a lack of trying. We provided him with medical care, blood transfusions. His body had just had enough.”
Officer Juergensen added: “He was very tolerant considering everything that was going on with him and how crummy he felt. He was still sweet. He would wag his tail and acknowledge you and things like that. So, it’s really sad.”
The league said Bruno was flea infested, weak, underweight, and covered in abscesses.
BROWN waited too long to get treatment for the poor dog, according to the league.
It took a year and now BROWN faces charges for abandonment of animals and torture inflict pain serious physical injury death.
WINK reports that officer Juergensen says his arrest is bittersweet.
Although she’s glad there’s justice, the other aspect is that it came at Bruno’s life expense.
She said: “Our success rate is really that the animal is rehabbed and re-homed and goes on to live a good life. That was not this case.”
BROWN has already bonded out of Charlotte County Jail.
WINK reports that BROWN’s neighbors told them he has another dog.
