On Thursday, May 12, in Wichita County District Court, 22-years-old DAKOTA CHE SCHMIDT (pictured) entered a guilty plea to cruelty to a non-livestock animal.
Eighty-ninth District Judge Charles Barnard sentenced him to 10 years of PROBATION and a $3,500 fine as part of a plea bargain.
TEXOMAS reports that conditions of SCHMIDT’s probation include performing 160 hours unpaid community service.
SCHMIDT, of Copperas Cove, had been arrested in October 2020, after Wichita Falls Police found SCHMIDT’s deceased dog in a kennel in SCHMIDT’s apartment.
The furbaby, a female medium-sized black Labrador-mix of approximately 8-10 years, had been left alone in the apartment for several weeks without water while SCHMIDT was out of town!
An investigation determined the VOICELESS VICTIM had died from dehydration.

On Monday, October 19, Wichita Falls Police arrested 20-year-old DAKOTA CHE SCHMIDT (pictured below), in connection with the death of his dog.
In November 2019, police were called to Arbor Creek apartments on Weeks Park Lane to conduct a welfare check on a tenant, SCHMIDT.
The management team told police that they had not him seen for a while, and given the foul odor emanating from the apartment, they thought SCHMIDT was inside dead.
When officers entered the apartment, they discovered a dead medium-sized black, Labrador-mix dog in a kennel.
Times Record News reports: “The officers described the apartment as “extremely unkempt and disheveled, with dog feces, urine and trash scattered all over the apartment.””
There was no water for the furbaby.
Animal Services were called in to investigate.
Animal Services officers spoke with SCHMIDT who had gone to the apartment to dispose of the dog.
According to Times Record News, SCHMIDT told police that he had been staying with a friend out of town and admitted he had not checked on his dog for almost a month.
The investigation revealed that the 8-10 years old dog died from dehydration.
SCHMIDT said that he left some food out for his dog but did not ask anyone to go check on her.
According to Animal Services the poor soul weighed only 28 pounds while a healthy dog should have weighed 50 pounds.
The warrant for SCHMIDT’s arrest was issued on September 20, 2020.
This murderer is now facing charges of cruelty to non-livestock animal.
He walked after posting a $2,500 bond.
*Voice For Us note: SCHMIDT had responsibilities toward his dog and by neglecting her he caused her senseless and unnecessary death. The dog was a helpless and voiceless breathing being. She could not dial 911 and ask for help.
In a fair and civil world, a decent judge should take this into account and subject SCHMIDT to the exact same suffering! As far as I am concerned, you took a life, you give yours!*
