The Pasco Sheriff’s Office arrested 61-year-old CRAIG JOHN VOGT (pictured).

On the late evening of September 23, 2025, deputies were dispatched to a home on Michael Drive in Hudson after one of VOGT’s neighbors found a shocking letter in her mailbox from VOGT.

According to the affidavit, VOGT wrote that he had killed two of his peacocks because the neighbor kept feeding them.

When deputies made contact with VOGT, he admitted to putting the letter in his neighbor’s mailbox “to prove a point that he will continue to kill his pet peacocks if she continues to feed them,” stated the affidavit.

Deputies questioned VOGT about the peacocks and according to the affidavit, he admitted to killing two of his peacocks by cutting the poor birds’ neck with a knife, bleeding them out, cooking them in a frying pan, and then eating them “so the neighbor would not feed them again.”

Deputies arrested VOGT and charged him with felony aggravated animal cruelty.

While he was being transported to the Pasco County Jail, VOGT said that upon his release, he plans to kill all his pet peacocks to prevent anyone from taking custody of them.

At the time of writing, records show that VOGT is no longer in custody.

The sheriff’s office tells me “This is an isolated incident, and there is no public safety threat. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.”

Court records show that VOGT has an extensive criminal record with over forty prior cases in Pasco County, including charges for public intoxication, traffic offences, and aggravated assault.
