The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that on January 27, its Patrol Division stopped a truck on Godwin Avenue in the Reddell area after receiving a complaint. Deputies talked to the driver and the passenger.
Sheriff Charles R. Guillory said deputies could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle so narcotics agents and Officer K-9 Diego were called in.
After a search of the truck yielded a large amount of narcotics, a search warrant was obtained and executed at passenger’s residence on 117, East Oak Street in Ville Platte.
Inside the residence officials discovered dead dogs.
Deputies arrested 25-years-old CODY MICHAEL WARDLAW (pictured below) on animal cruelty charges in addition to other drug related ones.
Online records show WARDLAW is still in custody at Evangeline Jail.
I have emailed Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles R. Guillory and requested additional information about the furbabies who were found deceased.
I also asked Sheriff Guillory whether a necropsy was performed to determine their cause of death.
If I get a response, I will post an update.
