CATHERINE GROPPER and CRYSTAL CAHILL facing charges for abandoning three cats

- New York, USA -

The Suffolk County SPCA said that following an investigation, its detectives have charged 32-years-old CATHERINE GROPPER and 39-years-old CRYSTAL CAHILL each with three counts of animal abandonment and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime.

The nonprofit said that GROPPER and CAHILL were performing animal rescue work for a program known as TNR which stands for Trap, Neuter, and Return (I call it Trap, Neuter, and Re-abandon!).

According to the Suffolk County SPCA, the women trapped cats in East Islip under the pretense of neutering and returning them but instead abandoned three adult cats in Tanner Park in Copiague.

Connecticut 12 News reports that the three cats are still missing after being abandoned in August 2022, and that animal advocates still come to Tanner Park to search for them.

GROPPER, of Massapequa, and CAHILL, of Amityville, are scheduled to appear in First District Court, Central Islip, on October 13, 2022.

If they are found guilty, they could potentially face jail time and fines.
