On April 15, New York State Police arrested 19-years-old CASSANDRA J. SIMPSON and her mother 44-years-old KELLY J. SIMPSON (both pictured).
About three weeks ago, mother and daughter voluntarily surrendered forty-three cats.
Animal Lovers Rescue is one of the organizations that took in some of the cats. Its intake coordinator, Ms. Audrey Stern, was on the scene and shared the furbabies’ medical reports with News 10. She said: “We had cats with huge worm loads, really skinny, really bad body condition, just from lack of proper nutrition and lack of water.”
Recent veterinary examinations disclosed with News 10 revealed that some of the cats had flea dirt, ear mites, and respiratory infection, among other conditions.
Five of the cats were in obvious need of veterinary attention, and consequently New York State Police executed a search warrant at the SIMPSONS’ Root home on April 15. A further five cats and a dog were removed from the property.
The daughter talked to NEWS 10 about the situation and said: “I just want everyone to know that me and my mom are not monsters. We really cared about cats, we always have.”
She also explained that the family initially had several cats, but after they continued reproducing, it became too challenging to support the dozens of animals.
“I do love my cats, and I don’t want people to think I never did. I did try, the best that I could”, she said.
Ms. Stern rightfully emphasized the importance of spaying and neutering
The SIMPSONS were arrested on five counts of misdemeanor torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance.
They were then issued appearance tickets and were scheduled to answer the charges in the Root Town Court on the afternoon of Monday, April 18, 2022.
To this regard, I have not been able to find any updates.
The case remains under investigation as the condition of the animals is evaluated.
