The SPCA Westchester announced the arrest of 43-years-old CARLETTA JENKINS (pictured).
In a news release the agency said that on April 19, 2022, the Yonkers Fire Department responded to a kitchen fire at an apartment on 13 Riverview Palace, Yonkers.
Inside the apartment, firefighters found a young, emaciated Pitbull named Mad Dog.
The SPCA Westchester said that Mad Dog was “in an advanced state of emaciation, dehydration, and extreme neglect.”
The furbaby was removed and transported to the Yonkers Animal Shelter for medical attention.
“After a thorough examination, it was found that Mad Dog’s state of emaciation was consistent with starvation. His ribs, hip and pelvic bones were visibly prominent. Mad Dog was denied necessary food and water resulting in the loss of his body weight”, stated the release.
Shannon Laukhuf, SPCA Westchester’s Executive Director, said: “We will never understand how someone could treat a helpless animal like this and deprive them of such basic necessities. We are just so grateful Mad Dog was rescued before it was too late.”
SPCA Westchester said that JENKINS is charged with animal cruelty for not providing adequate food, water, and veterinary care for an extended period to Mad Dog.
The investigation was conducted by SPCA Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit, under the direction of Ernest Lungaro, along with Yonkers Police Officer Thomas Jackson.
