The Port Orange Police Department was called to a home on Durant Drive about a deceased dog.
Upon arrival, officers were told by a man that his 16-year-old Rat Terrier named Buddy Boy was dead and appeared to have been beaten to death in the yard.
News-Journal reports that Capt. Kimberly Kilpatrick said: “Officers examined the scene and the deceased dog, observing several abnormal injuries that are not consistent with a natural death. Officers did find blood and other evidence on the ground outside that was consistent with the injuries of Buddy Boy.”
The furbaby was taken to the Halifax Humane Society for a necropsy.
In connection with Buddy Boy’s murder, on Thursday afternoon, July 30, police arrested 58-year-old BRIAN BATSON (pictured below).
BATSON was arrested in Holly Hill and charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
He was expected to be transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
