BILLY JOE BAMSEY and TYSHAWN JAMAL MOTT arrested after three dogs were removed from a Brookings home

- South Dakota, USA -

The City of Brookings Police Department arrested 49-year-old BILLY JOE BAMSEY and his son 19-year-old TYSHAWN JAMAL MOTT (both pictured).

Police did not release much information about the case. They said in a brief media release that the arrests are the result of an investigation into three dogs who were rescued from a residence in the 500 block of Fourth Street South.

Police tell me that the furvictims are three female Pitbull-mix. One of them is 3 years old but the age of the other two is unknown.

When I inquired about the dogs’ health, police said: “Stable, but guarded condition.”

BAMSEY and MOTT were taken into custody on February 1, 2026, and charged with three felony counts of cruelty to animals, three felony counts of failing to provide humane care of animals, and three misdemeanor counts of sanitary condition required.
