Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County removed 31 cats and kittens from a Kinsman home

- Ohio, USA -

On the late afternoon of Saturday, April 30, Humane Agents with the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County (AWL) removed 31 cats and kittens from a home on Barclay North Road in Kinsman.

AWL’s Director, Lori Shandor, told WKBN that “A concerned citizen called in and said that they were concerned about the state of the house and that the residents were overwhelmed.”

AWL explained in a Facebook post that “Most of the cats were suffering from upper respiratory infections, with multiple kittens having their eyes completely matted shut.”

Ms. Shandor said this isn’t the worst case AWL has seen, but the living conditions weren’t good and all of the cats are sick.

They have a lot of crusty eyes, very pink and infected looking eyes so we need to get that under control”, explained Ms. Shandor.

After the furbabies were signed over to AWL, staff transported them to their shelter.

The cats who were in worse condition were provided with warm compresses on their eyes, in addition to medication and treatment for the extensive fleas.

Ms. Shandor said five people including children were living at the home.

It’s unclear whether charges are being filed in the case.

Ms. Shandor said: “You know sometimes these situations, it starts out as good intentions and really does go bad so we’re just thankful that at this point they’re cooperating and working with us to get everything cleaned up.”

AWL is asking for donations to help with the purchase of additional medication for these rescued VOICELESS VICTIMS.

If you wish, and can afford to donate, please visit their website. Thank you!
