ALISON MARIE ARTHUR arrested after her severely neglected dog was euthanized

Updated: Oct 8, 2024

- Florida, USA -

The discovery of a severely neglected and abused dog, who was sadly euthanized, led to the arrest of 28-year-old ALISON MARIE ARTHUR (pictured).

According to the probable cause affidavit, on March 10, 2024, a Broward County Animal Control Officer responded to a property on 1801 NW 55th Avenue in Lauderhill regarding a dog being tied 24/7 without food or water.

The ACO made contact with JEROME MCQUEEN, ARTHUR’s father. MCQUEEN showed the ACO the dog, a female black Pointer American Staff named Orey.

The ACO reported that Orey was “tethered via chain to what appeared to be an old, rusted weight set.” The ACO further reported that Orey's Body Condition Score was 2/9 and her  FAS (Fear, Anxiety, and Stress) was 4/5.

Orey was found with large open sores on her neck that appeared to have pus oozing from the wound. Orey's fur along her neck was covered in pus.

MCQUEEN and ARTHUR told the ACO that Orey “might have been bitten by an iguana and that's what caused the sores.”  At first, the duo said Orey had been in that condition for a week, but later said she was like that for two weeks. The duo also admitted they did not take Orey to the vet to be treated. When the ACO advised them that this was a case of animal cruelty and that they needed to take Orey immediately to the vet, the duo said they would not put the dog in the same car where they transport children because it was not sanitary.

Another ACO responded to the scene and it was determined that Orey had a “severely embedded collar and needed immediate treatment.” MCQUEEN said he could not afford to provide medical treatment for Orey and signed the Owner Surrender Form with request for euthanasia.

Orey was then taken to the shelter to be euthanized.

ARTHUR told one of the Animal Control Officers that a few months after she acquired Orey, she had bitten her son and from that point on, Orey was chained to the weights.

Orey was euthanized and according to the affidavit, “two embedded collars were found. A canvas collar was twisted into a leather collar. Both had become embedded into her neck with the tighter leather collar causing most of the injury. The entire circumference of Orey's neck had injury with pungent odor of infection. The entire wound was moist with several areas having excessive amounts of oozing pus, which also soaked the hair to part of Orey's neck, chest, and shoulder. Orey was underweight with ribs, hips, and spine visible.”

On April 4, 2024, Officer Johnson with the Lauderhill Police Department made contact with Dr. Shapiro at Broward County Animal Care and Adoption who reported the findings of Orey's post-mortem examination.

Dr. Shapiro advised that there was a circumferential wound around Orey's neck which was as thick as a collar and deep to the muscle tissue. There was a discharge and some granulation tissue formation on the edges.  Orey's injuries were consistent  with the double collar around her neck, causing those lesions. “This injury was preventable”, stated the affidavit.

The affidavit went on to say: “If the collar was taken off once it became too tight, then it would have prevented this injury. This injury took time to develop and could have taken approximately several months. This injury would be painful for the dog. The discharge coming from the wound indicated an infection. This injury is something a proper caretaker/owner would notice.”

The investigation determined that ARTHUR was the primary caretaker and she was arrested on October 3, 2024, by the Sunrise Police Department. She was booked into the Broward County Jail on aggravated animal cruelty. Bond was set at $15,000. At the time of writing, records show ARTHUR is no longer in custody.

Court records show that ATHUR’s arraignment is scheduled for the morning of Monday, October 14, 2024, at 8:30.

Once again a human believes a dog is nothing more than troublesome property. And obviously this is an example of how far the apple didn’t fall far from the tree, if it fell at all. Between two adults, blessed Orey suffered extensively for months & neither have a damn! If only their punishment was exactly what they forced upon Orey, then maybe these sadists would think (a big order for most) twice before ever hurting another animal or child. Eff humans who hurt animals. RIP OREY. You were failed in this life but across the 🌈 Bridge you suffer no longer.
