The El Paso Police Department wrote in a Facebook post that 32-year-old ALBERTO CRUZ BOCANEGRA (pictured below), was arrested by the Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit on Friday, October 30.
The arrest follows the slow and painful death of Kira, his 2-year-old Australian Blue Heeler.
Kira died of a tick infestation and BOCANEGRA allowed that to happen!!!
According to the Department’s post, after police received tips regarding Kira’s condition, they warned BOCANEGRA and he failed to comply.
On August 24, during a follow-up visit at BOCANEGRA’s residence on 1238 Ohio Street, Kira was found dead in deplorable conditions, no water, or shelter and temperatures above 100 degrees.
A necropsy was performed on the furbaby and it was determined that the cause of her unnecessary death was tick anemia and Ehrlichiosis, a disease caused by tick infestation.
Kira was found to have thousands of ticks on her body.
Kira’s murderer was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $5,000 bond issued by Jail Magistrate Myers.
*Voice For Us note: I have said it before and I will say it again. I do not believe in follow-ups when it comes to animal cruelty cases. I am in favor of the nip-in-the-bud approach. Kira should have been removed when she was first discovered with her condition. As far as I am concerned, BOCANEGRA is NOT the only one responsible for Kira’s death!!!!!!!!!!*
