ALAN JAY CUMBERLAND owner of Cumberland k-9 Academy arrested for killing his dog with a pocketknife

- Kentucky, USA -

53-year-old ALAN JAY CUMBERLAND (pictured below) was arrested Saturday, April 11, and charged with torture dog/cat w/serial physical injury or death after he killed his dog with a pocketknife.

On April 11, the Glasgow Police Department responded to a residence on East College Street regarding a complaint about a person abusing a dog.

According to an arrest report, CUMBERLAND was lying on top of the dog who appeared to be trying to get out from under him.

He told police the dog had tried to attack him and stated he twisted the dog’s collar to attempt to make him compliant.

CUMBERLAND also stated that he performed a heart stick but did not have a needle typically used to euthanize a dog, so he used a pocketknife and lied on top of the dog until he believed he was dead.

Police interviewed witnesses across the street, including the person who called 911 and learned the dog had not been showing any signs of aggression toward CUMBERLAND.

Not only that, but CUMBERLAND also had no apparent bite marks or other signs of having been attacked.

ALAN JAY CUMBERLAND was booked into the Barren County Detention Center under a $1,500 cash bond.

Police found two other dogs in the property who were removed by animal control officials.

WNKY40 reports that CUMBERLAND is the owner of a K9 training school in Bowling Green.
